After almost four decades in the building sector we have worked on hundreds of different projects - from small one off jobs, such as installing decking, to complete house renovations taking several months. Whatever the size or complexity of the work we apply the same meticulous level of attention to detail to ensure our customers are completely satisfied with the end result.

Below we have outlined details of some of our recent projects to illustrate the range of work that 1AF Multi Services undertakes.

Project date: 2020

Project duration: 3 months

Property Type: Converted chapel

Scope of project:

The customer wanted a major refurbishment of his property, a Methodist chapel, which had been converted into a cottage.  The interior of the property had not been decorated since 1993 and was looking very dated.  The customer was keen to refresh the décor, create a lighter, brighter, more spacious environment and make the house fit for purpose.

The project involved extensive carpentry.  Wood panels were fitted across 80 per cent of the house to provide a unique decorative effect. A Velux window was carefully installed in the living room, enhancing the level of natural light.   There were also a number of carpentry related changes in the kitchen.

The most complex element of the work was opening up a Victorian 13.5 inch brick wall to enable a large bifold door to be fitted.  This structural change has opened up the side of the house, transforming the dining room into a light open space.

The job also included wrap around decking to the external areas.

“I had employed Jorge’s services previously when he rebuilt a garden bridge at my property.  I was impressed on that occasion by the meticulous detail and stylistic design of Jorge’s work.  When it came to the major refurbishment of my house, I knew Jorge would be able to undertake all the different aspects of the project.  Jorge’s work is meticulous.  The quality of his workmanship, his advanced joinery skills and his problem solving ability are unrivalled. I am delighted with the end result.”

Project date: Various projects carried out since 2014

Project duration: Various

Property Type: Mature detached house

Scope of project:

After receiving a referral from a friend, Jorge has been engaged by the customer to undertake a range of different building and home improvement projects over the last 7 years.

The first job Jorge did was to design and lay a new path and patio to the front garden, which now looks immaculate and is often admired by visitors.

Jorge has also been the lead builder in undertaking a single-storey extension of the lounge to the front of the property in which he undertook all the brickwork and roofing. Although the extension only added two metres of additional space to the property it was quite complex and required some careful thought and skilled work to complete. The project involved reusing the original lounge front windows and installing them at the rear of the lounge.

Internal jobs have included two bathroom installations, involving the removal of the old bathroom suites and tiles, re-tiling completely and then fitting new bath, shower, sink and toilet. Jorge has also been involved in painting and decorating a number of rooms and blocking up a window to enable a new kitchen to be fitted.

“We have known Jorge for quite a number of years and found him to be extremely competent. He is very hard working, often putting in really long hours. We have had no hesitation in leaving him in charge of our house, doing his building work while we have been out. He always made sure everything was secure before he left. We highly recommend him.”

Project date: January 2021

Project duration: 2-3 days

Property Type: Detached Georgian house

Scope of project:

The customer required a number of repairs to be carried out to their period property.  They had leaks from the roof and issues with the gutter and chimney.  Jorge carried out the repair work, successfully fixing the leaks.  The gate and fence were also in need of maintenance and Jorge used his carpentry skills to repair the fence and make sure the gate worked properly.  An outside electrical socket was also installed.

“1AF Multi Services was strongly recommended by the previous owner of the property and was well known in the village for providing building services.  Jorge did a great job for us.  He is neat and tidy, reliable and honest.”

Project date:

Project duration: 1 week

Property Type: Mature semi-detached house

Scope of project:

The previous owners of the property had cultivated vegetables in a large section of the rear garden with the remainder having been planted with shrubs and bushes.   The current owners were keen to "extend" the living area into the outdoors and create an easy to manage space where they could relax, dine and entertain.  Having decided on a sandstone tile patio they contacted a number of different companies for quotes.

When Jorge from 1AF Multi Services arrived to assess the job they realised that he had carried out some internal decorating at the property previously.  They had been impressed with Jorge’s work ethic and creativity and so were happy to use his services again for the patio.

A spell of very rainy weather meant that the project took a little longer to complete than originally estimated.  Jorge advised against laying the patio in the rain as it would cause problems with the cement and mortar and potentially have a negative impact on the aesthetics of the finished job. Despite the unsteady weather and some rain, the job was finished within a week to the customers' complete satisfaction.

Jorge cleared the shrubs and weeds, laid a weed-retardant membrane and did some groundwork for a planned garden office, by laying tubes for water and electricity cables prior to laying the cement foundation and sandstone tiles. The rear garden has been transformed into the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the outdoors.

"We were very happy to see Jorge standing at our front door to review the site and give us a quote for a patio - something we had to delay by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We remembered that he had done some painting work for us when we first purchased the house and were very happy with his work then. While Jorge did not offer us the cheapest quote, we decided to engage his services, as we could trust that the quote was honest and that he would do an excellent job. The space opened up and we have been enjoying meals, coffees and just the sunshine nearly daily since he completed our new patio. As an added benefit, our children now spend more time outdoors. We will certainly ask Jorge to do other jobs for us!"
